Sophorolipids are the most successful microbial biosurfactant to date, having been commercialised in the laundry detergent, household cleaner, personal care, agricultural and enhanced oil recovery fields.
Holiferm's technology has been demonstrated to double the state of the art for two of the most economically important KPIs for this process, reaching titers >800 g/l and productivities >5 g/l/h, and reducing production costs by an estimated 40%.
This has been successfully demonstrated at two commercial sites, to pilot scale. A control system has been developed, the scale-up model has been verified, and it has been demonstrated that the technology can be applied to produce sophorolipids from waste oil and sugar streams. This makes application of the technology to industrial production low cost and low risk, and we can provide licences for its use.
